Tara** arrived in Canada recently with her husband and her little one. It has been a whirlwind of new experiences, and amidst the settling in, her own style was feeling a little lost in the shuffle.

She deserved to feel amazing – and fashionable – too!

This blog is her guide to rediscovering her personal style in Canada, while keeping her busy-mom life and cultural roots in mind. Here are some tips inspired by her recent wardrobe management session with Beau-Being You.

Embrace your curls:

Between settling in, navigating a new culture, and taking care of your precious munchkin, some things, like yourself, might fall by the wayside. But Tara understood that she deserved to feel amazing too!

And what better way to feel confident than by rocking her natural curls?  Canada is a multicultural paradise, and there's a whole community of curly-haired beauties out there ready to embrace their unique texture.  Here are some tips to get you started on your curly hair journey: 1. Know your curls: Curl Pattern : Understand if your curls are loose spirals, tight coils or something in between. Knowing your curl type will help you choose the right products and techniques.

Porosity: Hair porosity refers to how easily your hair absorbs or retains moisture.

2. Many traditional shampoos contains sulfates, which can be harsh on curly hair, therefore ditch them. Conditioners are your best friends. Embrace styling products like gels, mousses, creams etc. that can help define your curls. Take one step at a time. move to styling only once you are comfortable rocking your curls.

3. Ditch the brush: Curly hair hates brushes, therefore use a wide-tooth comb or fingers to detangle hair while wet and loaded with conditioner.

4. Ditch rough towels that cause frizz. use a micro-fiber towel or a cotton t-shirt to gently squeeze out excess water. Avoid heat styling whenever possible.

Canada has a thriving curly hair community online and offline ! join groups to get inspiration, tips, support from curly haired women. Most importantly understand that learning to love your curls is a journey. Experiment, have fun and don't be afraid to embrace your unique texture. Remember, confidence is the best accessory you can wear.

Mix and match magic:

You don't need a whole new wardrobe! the key is maximizing the pieces you already have. Here's how:

  1. Inventory: Take everything out of your closet and drawers. Discard anything that's worn out, doesn't fit well or doesn't spark joy.

  2. Identify key pieces and pay mix and match.

  3. Accessorize like a pro. Jackets, statement jewelry etc. can transform the outfit.

Fashion shouldn't dictate what you wear – it should empower you!  Here are some tips that worked for Tara.

  • Know Your Shape:  She understood the her body type was hourglass and learnt to style outfits for her body type.

  • Focus on Fit:  The right fit is everything!  Tailoring existing pieces or opting for clothes that hug her curves in the right places made a world of difference.

Indo-western fusion: Where cultures collide in style

You love rocking your Bindi with western outfits, and that's what makes your style unique!  Embrace the Indo-Western trend:

  • Fusion Flair:  Pair a classic kurta with skinny jeans or a denim skirt.  Mix a flowy printed maxi dress with a leather jacket.  The options are endless!

  • Accessorize with Intention:  Statement earrings, chunky bangles, or a colorful dupatta (scarf) can add an Indian touch to any outfit.

  • Explore Canadian Brands:  Many Canadian designers incorporate multicultural influences into their collections.  Check out local boutiques or online stores to discover hidden gems.

Tara understood that style is a journey and not a destination. She embraced her personality, her heritage and her busy-mom life. She is having fun experimenting and expressing herself through fashion.

Just like Tara, please remember that you are unique and it's beautiful being YOU!
