Discipline and monotony both mean a repetitive cycle of tasks but one makes you better and the other sucks the life out of you. I never had any routine in my life for the longest time cos I felt that it would make my life dreary.

However, I felt that I was always hard-pressed for time, I could not find time to do the things I loved. Simple things like sketching, singing, cleaning my wardrobe, gardening with mom, were pleasures that I just couldn't find time for. Seemed like I was in a rush most of the time. And I attributed this to long working hours and busy social life. Felt that if I needed that lifestyle, I should be okay with the rush and there was no other way to do it.

When people spoke about planning their meal for the week, planning their vacations ahead of time, I just couldn't relate. I wanted things to be spontaneous, exciting in every aspect of my life.

Don't get me wrong, I was extremely organized, be it at work or home, my house was clutter-free and put together. It's not the chaos I craved for but the excitement.

A few months ago I was reading about the concept of visualization and manifestation. A part of the exercise was to visualize your goal/future and take stock of where you are at present. During which I realized that I actually had a lot of time at hand to do the things I loved and work towards my goals. All I needed was discipline.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.

- Jim Rohn

Monotony is defined as tedious repetition and routine and Discipline provides people with rules to live their lives efficiently and effectively.

Discipline makes your life better and makes it easier for you to achieve your goals. It helps you plan and utilize your time better. It makes your life better. If people relied purely on motivation for getting things done, nothing would ever get done. It's the discipline that makes it happen most of the time.

For example,

Goal: Better skin and body

Step 1. Understand the areas of improvement.

Step 2. Basis the situation, consult an expert (optional)

Step 3. Create a plan

  • Cardio - 1 hour 3 days a week

  • Weights - 1 hour 3 days a week

  • Eat a balanced meal

  • Drink 6 - 8 glasses of water every day

  • Face pack and scrub once a week

Step 4. Follow your plan without giving any excuses and this needs discipline.

How can this become monotonous? If you do the same exercise every single day or eat the same food week after week. You can make it exciting by going out for a run someday, someday it could be Zumba, can decide to work out with a partner one of the days.

Discipline is very crucial when you are working towards a better future. The goal could be anything, buying a house, a new job, more money, better health, new business, better body, better wardrobe, travel the world. Whatever your goal is, it is gonna be easier to achieve with discipline.

It's beautiful being You, let each day be as special as you are:)
